Master/ slave licensing requires an infrastructure where a slave Softdial CallGem™ server can connect at all times to the licensing master via a TCP socket connection. The TCP socket connection will carry SDMP messages (Sytel's proprietary communications protocol) in encrypted form.
Customers wishing to take advantage of master/ slave licensing will need to ensure that their corporate IT policy supports transmission of a proprietary protocol via a WAN connection.

Master/ slave licensing introduces potential for license abuse. Therefore, there are a number of requirements that must be fulfilled in order for Sytel to grant a master/ slave license, as follows:
Requirement | Reason for requirement | |
---|---|---|
1. | Minimum overall number of users - 100 | Master/ slave licensing has a configuration and accounting cost that prohibits its use for low agent numbers. |
2. | Licensing master server must provision adequate storage for audit trail information for 6 months. | This is calculated at 120MB per agent, so a 200 agent system would require 24GB of additional storage Sytel will provide either the end-user or the reseller (depending on contractual arrangements) with periodic reports on usage and limits. In the case of usage licensing particularly, it is recommended that customers maintain 6 months worth of audit trail so that any discrepancies in billing reconciliation can be resolved satisfactorily. |
3. | Customers must provide a means of uploading audit trail information to a FTP server as directed by Sytel on a daily basis. |
The audit trail provides information on usage and is used to provide billing reports for utility pricing customers and to monitor for license abuse for master/ slave licensing. Sytel or the reseller will configure the audit trail extract. The information in the audit trail is encrypted for transmission over public networks. |
4. | Customer must observe any notifications of license abuse, and act on them within 48 hours. | With a multi-site installation it may not be possible to manage concurrency limits because of co-ordination difficulties. If insufficient licenses are provisioned, the system will allow a 48-hour grace period where over-use of licenses will be allowed. After 48 hours the limit will be strictly enforced. This grace period enables customers to either reorganise to meet concurrency limits or order more licenses. |
5. | Customer is strongly advised to acquire a license for |
Customers who use master/ slave for usage aggregation may wish to perform billing reconciliation. The summary statements of usage sent by Sytel will not contain everything needed to perform billing reconciliation. |
